Institute for Advanced Technology in the Humanities

The Institute for Advanced Technology in the Humanities (IATH) is a research institute specializing in the use of Information technology in the humanities. It is part of the University of Virginia in the United States. The institute was founded in 1992 with money donated by IBM. In 2010, the institute developed the Social Networks and Archival Context (SNAC) database. This database has authority controls for people, but it also contains what other people who have written about the person. The database also tells which libraries have the writings. Each person in the database has their own unique number.[1][2]
