Wikipedia talk:An English Wikipedian's guide
Possible addition
I think we should we add something to this page regarding the one-strike rule. Blocked or banned Wikipedians from other projects should be made aware of this from the onset. That seems fair. I don't know of any reason why this can't be added here. User:Rus793 (talk) 18:27, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
The following text was removed from the page
The following was removed from the page with edit summary "rvt unhelpful commentary". I put that in to try to explain to ease some of the people who come from the EN wikipedia over the culture shock. (Will it be removed from this talk page too?) That demonstrates for me that there is truly no help for this wiki project to become a place that welcomes volunteers from outside.
Tools you may expect are missing
Some of the tools that EN editors have come to rely on for maintaining a happy and civil working environment have not been implemented here. The general attitude here is "keep it simple", not just in text but with procedures and tools.
- New page patrollers may hit your page within minutes, while you are still working on it (there is no New pages patrol/Noticeboard). This probably broke your train of thought, but please don't despair. Try to continue polishing, and revert the other person's changes if there is no merit to them.
- It is difficult to maintain a watchlist of any size (there is no setting (preference) to "Group changes by page in recent changes and watchlist").
- If you are interested in doing only a little work here, you might want to consider putting the highly visible pages, such as those linked from the main page, on your watchlist. Highly visible pages would benefit from the vigilance of more people.
- WikiLove has been implemented only in a simplified form. It will be necessary to find another way to cheer someone up with your visual puns and other apposite wit, or drop the reliance on cheering people up inside the wiki.

- It bordered on vandalism and was quite clearly an attack on editors of this wiki. One way for new editors to have an easy transition to a new wiki is to not go around attacking everything about the new community you have joined. Being considerate usually helps people integrate easily. -DJSasso (talk) 18:44, 16 July 2015 (UTC)
- I think my experience is the opposite. New page patrollers are so trigger-happy at en.wp that CSD had to be changed to tell them to back off for ten minutes on some criteria. I've got no problems with watchlists; just don't use the "Expand watchlist to show all changes" setting (and if you do, then don't complain that it shows all the changes). This works for me at en.wp, where my watchlist exceeds 2500 pages, just fine, and it works exactly the same way here. I don't believe that WikiLove is available at all. If you want to award barnstars, then you have to do it the old-fashioned way. It might be nice, but I don't think it really matters. WhatamIdoing (talk) 23:01, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
