ReactOS is a project to develop an operating system that is compatible with applications and device drivers for Microsoft Windows NT version 5.x and up (Windows 2000 and its successors), while being made entirely of free software.

Although the project currently is in the alpha development stage, many Windows programs already work well. While the ReactOS kernel has been written from scratch, the userland is mostly based on the Wine compatibility layer for Unix operating systems.
