Selenium monochloride, also known as selenium(I) chloride or diselenium dichloride, is a chemical compound. Its chemical formula is Se2Cl2. It contains selenium in its +1 oxidation state. It also contains chloride ions.
Properties
It is a reddish brown oily liquid.
Preparation
It can be made by reacting selenium, selenium dioxide, and hydrochloric acid. It can be made though by just reacting chlorine with selenium. Another way to make it is reacting oleum and hydrochloric acid with selenium.
Selenium is never used as a treatment because Selenium is used to make metals. Selenium is theh component in making metals. So Selenium is never used inside a person's body.
Chlorine is that chemical used in swimming pools to make the water inside the pool clean.
Oleum is used in make up or cosmetics in woman. Oleum is used in face powder. Thus this cannot be eaten or drank.
Selenium dioxide di- meaning 2 moles of oxygen or 2 moles of oxide. Selenium dioxide when mixed together can cause an explosion.
Uses
It can be used to add selenium to other chemical compounds.
Note that Hydrochloric acid is poisonous. Hydrochloric acid is only used in washing clothes. Hydrochloric acid is a cleaning agent of things and not to be drink by any person. Please note it is inedible.
