Computer vision is the science of computers that can see. Computer vision learns how computers can find things in pictures. The pictures can come from many places, like movies, cameras, or medical machines.

Computer vision can make computers do useful things, like:

  • Watch people
  • Count people
  • Organize many pictures
  • Make difficult problems simple
  • Communicate better with people
  • Robots that see

This science is like doctors who study how people see. These doctors work with scientists who study computer vision.

Computer vision is the opposite of computer graphics. Computer graphics makes new pictures from an idea, but computer vision makes an idea from pictures.
