SUSE is a Linux version. The company Suse Linux GmbH in Germany created it. This company started selling a Linux version named Slackware translated to German. This company realized that after the version they used as basis, too much time passed until their version was finished and they could sell it, so they made their own version of Linux.

SUSE Linux now belongs to the company Novell, and is developed by the community through a project called OpenSUSE. SUSE Linux can be downloaded for free from the Internet or purchased from Novell. SUSE Linux is now in version 10.1.
