Building code
Building code is a set of regulations developed by a wide variety of professionals and addressing a building design, construction, testing, inspections, and maintenance. Its provisions are intended to protect public health, safety and welfare.

Different building codes may differ considerably. Seismic design, e.g., is based on authorized engineering procedures meant to safeguard structures subject to earthquake exposure [1]. However, a design which blindly follows some seismic code regulations does not guarantee safety against collapse or serious damage [1].
