A web browser is a piece of computer software. Browsers let people read and write documents in HTML (Hypertext Markup Language). The documents are kept on the World Wide Web.

Browsers use rules such as HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol) to work with the World Wide Web. Other rules used in web browsers are FTP (File Transfer Protocol). Some web browsers can help people use e-mail. Web Browsers can also help people write messages to newsgroups.

Some web browsers used today are Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator.
