Strontium oxide is a compound when strontium reacts with oxygen. When strontium burns in the air, it forms a mixture of strontium oxide and strontium nitride. It reacts with water to make strontium hydroxide, and it also reacts with carbon dioxide to make strontium carbonate. It also forms when strontium carbonate decomposes. The chemical formula is SrO. It is a basic oxide.
