ਦਮਸ਼ਕ (ਅਰਬੀ: دمشق / ਦਿਮਸ਼ਕ, ਸੀਰੀਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਮ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਅਸ਼-ਸ਼ਮ) ਅਤੇ ਉਪਨਾਮ ਜਾਸਮਿਨ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ (ਅਰਬੀ: مدينة الياسمين / ਮਦੀਨਤ ਅਲ-ਯਾਸਮੀਨ), ਸੀਰੀਆ ਦੀ ਰਾਜਧਾਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਲੇਪੋ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਦੂਜਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਹੈ। ਇਸਦੀਆਂ ਹੱਦਾਂ ਦੱਖਣ ਵੱਲ ਕੁਨੇਤਰਾ, ਦੱਰਾ ਅਤੇ ਅਸ-ਸੁਵੈਦਾ, ਪੂਰਬ ਵੱਲ ਜਾਰਡਨ, ਉੱਤਰ ਵੱਲ ਹੋਮਸ ਅਤੇ ਪੱਛਮ ਵੱਲ ਲਿਬਨਾਨ ਨਾਲ ਲੱਗਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਇਹ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀਆਂ ਚੌਦਾਂ ਰਾਜਪਾਲੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਦੀ ਰਾਜਧਾਨੀ ਵੀ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਅਬਾਦ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਣ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਲੇਵਾਂਤ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰਕ ਅਤੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਹੈ। ੨੦੦੩ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਾਜ਼ੇ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ ਇਸਦੀ ਅਬਾਦੀ ੧੭.੧ ਲੱਖ ਹੈ।^[1]
