after Bhavavarman's death Mahendravarman took his brother's throne, perhaps using force against rivals, in the capital at Sambor Prei Kuk. At least one other king, Hiranyavarman, was ruling in Cambodia at this time. He was the brothers' nephew, a son of their sister, who ruled a polity in northern Cambodia.
