Mediawiki native user status tool

  • Problem: It is often difficult to know if a user is active and going to engage in discussion with you or help you out
  • Proposed solution: Introduce a native user status tool in Mediawiki. Optional, it could be set to "Extended break", "Active" etc.
  • Who would benefit: Community interactions
  • Category:Bots and gadgets
  • More comments:This can partially be achieved by Wikipedia:Editor activity indicator
  • Phabricator tickets:
  • Status: Open

Discussion

  • There could be two features:
    • a drop down box with a status like "Active" (watching notifications, talkpage emails etc), "Busy" (with a reason like work in real life, cyclone etc), "Wikibreak", None (default).
    • A software detection of last seen. I think some chat programs use this. --Commander Keane (talk) 20:52, 27 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
