not designed for long term archiving

Regarding this Special:Diff/1258645606/1262883490 .. functionally speaking, Google Cache links did not last very long. I can say this with confidence as I personally fixed thousands of such GC links on Wikipedia over the years prior to the service shutting down. They simply did not work as archiving links. They were a short term "cache", not an archive. A cache by design expires. This is why no language Wikipedia was actively recommending GC as an archiving service. Users sometimes used it that way, much to their loss. -- GreenC 18:15, 13 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yahoo cache

Didn't Yahoo used to have their own cache too? Sd-100 (talk) 20:02, 20 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

According to this: yes. -- GreenC 22:30, 20 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
