Wrong name - it should be Linear photo-diode array. There are things called diode arrays that have nothing to do with this - arrays of normal diodes. Laser diodes can also be set up in linear arrays.

For instance http://www.vishay.com/company/press/releases/2004/040730bdiode/ is about real diode arrays.

And of course you can operate a normal diode array in the linear domain..

Not to standard

This article is not to the standard of an encyclopedia. Linear (photo) diode arrays are used in a wide variety of applications. This article only describes a singe, very specific use. There are few details and absolutely no references.
