I wrote the following article on Gauss's Principle specifically because there was no good resource explaining, and giving a proof in full generality (even in the literature, as far as I could find): http://preetum.nakkiran.org/misc/gauss/

I believe this is valuable to include as an external link, so that interested readers can learn more about this topic by reading a single, consistent tutorial. This style of tutorial is something that does not fit well in Wikipedia's format. Preetum (talk) 22:21, 3 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
