I'm unsure if the statement "In any full-function IMS database, the smallest element that can be retrieved is a segment" is ture. When a PCB with field level sensitivity is used, only some, or even only one field is returned. Admittedly, these fields are returned within a segment of reduced size, but the rest of the article describes segments as the full unit of data.
