Star Citizen, is a cult and a scam masquerading as a videogame that was dreamed up by Chris Roberts, the creator of a few crappy failed games in the 1980s. More than one of Robert's game developer-colleagues noted that Hubbard had an especial interest in getting rich.
As a dilettante student of various sciences and a creative writer, Robert made a 2011 tech demo of Astoundingly Realistic Space Simulator — later called Star Citizen to, essentially, start an unscientific experiment in human psychology based upon manipulation, deceit, pyramid schemes, and other scams. After a wildly successful Kickstarter campaign, he founded Cloud Imperium Games after claiming to have begun production on Star Citizen. What followed became more and more ridiculous, as he produced everything from buggy tech demos of spaceship combat to sad attempts at first-person shooters; all with the expensive promises of a fully immersive open-world galaxy.
Losers who genuinely believe that a nonstarter game developer who couldn't even cut it in the 80s is going to somehow pull the biggest videogame in history out of his ass have given him thousands of dollars in micro-transactions, to the dismay of their parents.
Though all cults tend to be draconian about their dogma, due to the nature of the internet, the Cloud Imperium Games attempts to stifle open discussion about Robberts and Star Citizen.
So, you know, a perfectly ordinary videogame.
