Complementary architecture

Complementary architecture is an approach in architectural practice rooted in understanding of local conditions and context resulting in buildings which contribute to their environment in such a way as to improve or emphasise its qualities. Vernacular and indigenous architecture are examples complementary architecture, as are some contemporary movements such as organic architecture or new ubanism.
The definition first appeared in early Manifesto of Complementary Architecture (MOCA) in 2014, published by ?? in ??, Australia, responding to the increasing impact of globalised design trends insensitive towards local specificity. Some features of complementary architecture include endemism, sustainability and selflessness.
