Don't categorise itself
{{editprotected}}
To prevent the MediaWiki page itself from being added to the Category:Template loop warnings (since it doesn't have any loops itself) would putting the category between <includeonly>...</includeonly> be enough? Debresser (talk) 21:07, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
As you said in the edit summary, the "includeonly" was visible. I was afraid this might happen, because this is not a regular template. Any ideas for another solution? Not that it is such a big deal, but still. Debresser (talk) 23:37, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
- Gah! You are too fast, I was just writing a comment and got an editconflict: Here's my first response:
- Good idea. But since this is a MediaWiki message you never know how it is parsed. So I tried it and checked the result. And ouch, the includeonlys got visible on the pages where this warning is used, so we can't use them. Guess we have to live with having this page in the category. Sorry.

Done - Okay, that was odd. Since you Debresser seemed so enthusiastic about it I tried a very long shot: I used an #ifeq: to check the pagename instead. And waddayanow, it worked. Looks fine on the pages that has this warning message. MediaWiki never ceases to surprise.

- Very nice. Good to know there're smart admins around here. :) The obvious solution. I've used variations of it. Usually a more general one on userboxes. Debresser (talk) 00:31, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
- Hehe, thanks. And well, template coding is what I mostly do here at Wikipedia, so parserfunctions such as #ifeq: is what I work with everyday. I was asked to become admin since many of the templates I had created had become high-use and thus protected. Thus since I continued to take care of those templates I was doing editprotected requests so often that they made me admin to get me off their backs. :))
