Memory Technology Device
Appearance
MTD(Memory Technology Device)
HARD drive MTD device 1.Consists of sectors 1.Consists of eraseblocks 2.Sectors are small (512, 1024 bytes) 2.Eraseblocks are larger (32KiB, 128KiB) 3.Maintains 2 main operations: read sector and write sector 3.Maintains 3 main operations:
read from eraseblock, write to eraseblock, and erase eraseblock 4.Bad sectors are re-mapped and hidden by hardware,
at least at modern LBA hard drives 4.Bad eraseblocks are not hidden and should be dealt with in software 5.HDD sectors are devoid of the wear-out property 5.Eraseblocks get worn-out (i.e., bad and unusable)
after about 104-105 erase cycles.
(MTD devices) are somewhat more difficult to work with.
