Roderick C. Young is a United States magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia who is an announced nominee to be a United States District Judge of the same court.

Education

Young earned his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts from George Mason University, and his Juris Doctor from the West Virginia University College of Law.[1]

Young served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, where he was the Deputy Criminal Supervisor. He previously served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, a Senior Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for the Richmond Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, and an Assistant Public Defender for the Portsmouth Public Defender’s Office. He is also an Adjunct Professor at William & Mary Law School.[1]

He was appointed a United States magistrate judge to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia on October 28, 2014.[2]

Intent to nominate to district court

On May 6, 2020, President Trump announced his intent to nominate Young to serve as a United States District Judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
