Ryukyu independence movement
The Ryukyu independence movement (（りゅうきゅうどくりつうんどう）琉球独立運動), by the end of [[[[the Pacific war] 1945]]], the reversion of Okinawa prefecture became unclear, while discussing not under USA or Japan governing, seeking independence, as the motion of establish the "Nation of Ryukyu" started.
the history
with the Ryukyu independence movement, Ryukyu people think themselves as "the Ryukyu race" or collateral family line of the Japanese race. The "imperial people conversion education | assimilation policy" administered coercively from "Meiji Era" is criticized. People wish to become Ryukyu instead of Japan, probably become independent nation, by the American protection.
In the mainland, after the war "Okinawa human union" and so on was formed, insist on seeking independence.
present condition
in 1995, the opposite motion for the US military base in Okinawa prefecture happens, and arise the Ryukyu independence movement again.
In 2005, the University of Ryukyu professor executed a toll, with the method of using the telephone, targeting the Okinawan of 18 years old or more. Effective reply was obtained from 1029 people. The person whom you answer that the person whom you answer that inside the result and the Okinawan, the self is not the Japanese and the Okinawa person (the Ryukyu person) is should become independent 40.6%, 24.9% of them supports Ryukyu independence, 40.6% of them think they are Japanese.
