Civilian Irregular Defense Group (CIDG, pronounced "sid-gee") is one several South Vietnamese irregular military units during the Vietnam War. Manned by inhabitants of ethnic minority regions in the country (especially Montagnard), these were organized by the United States to counter Viet Cong influence in those regions. Most of these were converted to Vietnam Army Ranger units in 1970.
