Redirect to Image optimization. An image optimzer (DOI) is software that provides Image optimization. The Image optimization article could do well with a great deal of expansion. --Bejnar (talk) 00:43, 2 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You are correct image compression is not image optimization, image optimization occurs prior to compression to ensure that compression does not loose essential data. But that is not the only use of image optimization. A number of "image optimizers", that is software designed to optimize digital images, do exist.
