@Eyesnore and MSGJ: I have never seen this message for a list-defined reference although it's possible it can also occur there. Previously we have only linked list-defined reference in cases where the default message in [1] says in <code><references></code> to indicate the problem is there. Edit request discussion

This "edit request discussion" is discuss what can be done when an unsophisticated editor reaches this interface page, and sees nothing but a blank page with the title at the top. What should the editor do?--DThomsen8 (talk) 14:44, 19 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Remove "Invalid <ref> tag" consistent with other modified reference error interface messages that originally contained it. It should read the following:

The named reference "$1" was invoked multiple times with different content
