Conditional release is a method of release from incarceration that is contingent upon obeying conditions of release under threat of revocation (return to prison) under reduced due process protections."[1] Hence, conditional release can be a synonym of parole and is sometimes viewed as a less restrictive alternative to hospitalizing psychiatric patients.[2]
