Labelcode

Labelcode is an unique 4-digit or 5-digit music label identification code that is assigned by Gesellschaft zur Verwertung von Leistungsschutzrechten (GVL), Germany. Since January 2017, Labelcode is no longer mandatory.[1] Labelcode is still used in some occasions, for example, CD publishing.[2][3]
Usage
Labelcode was created by GVL in May 1st, 1976 and introduced by IFPI in 1977 in order to unmistakably identify the different record labels.[4] The number of countries using the Labelcode is limited, and the code given on the item is not always accurate.[5]
Labelcode also should not be confused with catalog numbers.[6]
It is on the form of LC-12345. Still active brands with a 4-digit-code start with a zero, e.g. LC 0407 -> LC 00407.[clarification needed]
