Visual metaphor
A visual metaphor is an analogy representing, in a form clarifying spatial relationships, a concept or phenomenon whose global or detailed character is poorly (or perhaps merely prosaically) represented by a verbal description.[1] Ancestor and descendant trees and "the dastardly digit" are straightforward examples, as are many styles of mapping that forego precise modeling.
