Message-Oriented Text Interchange Ssystem (MOTIS) is an ISO messaging standard based on the ITU-T X.400 Message Handling System (MHS) standard.

It plays a similar role to the Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) in the TCP/IP protocol suite.
