2-(2-ethoxyethoxy)ethanol, also known as 3,6-dioxa-1-octanol, DEGEE, diethylene glycol monoethyl ether and under trade names Carbitol, Carbitol cellosolve, Transcutol, Dioxitol, Poly-solv DE, and Dowanal DE, is an industrial solvent. It is a clear, colorless, hygroscopic liquid. Structurally it is an alcohol and an ether, a triethylene glycol with missing one hydroxyl group with formula CH3CH2OCH2CH2OCH2CH2OH. Its melting point is -76 °C, its boiling point is 196-202 °C, its flash point is 96 °C, and its auto-ignition temperature is 204 °C. At direct contact it causes drying of skin by leaching fats, and is mildly irritating to the eyes. It is flammable. Template:SMILESCAS
