Field marshal (Libya)

The rank of Field Marshal is a high rank in the military of Libya. General Khalifa Haftar, commander-in-chief of the Libyan National Army, was promoted to the rank of field marshal on 14 September 2016, by the decision of the House of Representatives, located in the eastern Libyan city of Tobruk.[1][2]
Haftar was promoted as reward for a successful offensive in the Gulf of Sirte during the ongoing Libyan Civil War.[1][2]
The commander-in-chief of the previous Libyan military, the Armed Forces of the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, was Brotherly Leader Muammar Gaddafi, who used the rank of Colonel.
