A pylon transformer is a transformer mounted on a pylon. Because of their enormous weight transformers for pylon transformers are only built for voltages under 30kV. Pylon transformers are often used for the power supply of facilities outside settlements, as farmyards or pumping stations from the power grid in the level below 30kV. An other application is the power supply of switch heatings from the overhead wire of railways electrified with AC. In this cases single phase pylon transformers are used.
