The Techren Solar Project is a 300 megawatt (MWAC) solar photovoltaic power plant near Boulder City, Nevada that is being developed by 174 Power Global, the US subsidiary of the South Korean company, Hanwha Group. Two phases of the project are currently under construction: the 100 MW Techren 1 began in 2017 and the 200 MW Techren 2 began in 2018.[1]

Project details

The project is located on 2,300 acres near the existing 64 MW Nevada Solar One, 150 MW Boulder Solar, and 552 MW Copper Mountain Solar Facilities in the Eldorado Valley.[1] NV Energy intends to purchase the electricity from both facilities, which are eligible for further customer participation under the NV GreenEnergy Rider opportunity.[2] An additional 100 MW is also in planning for development: the 25 MW Techren 3, the 25 MW Techren 4, and the 50 MW Techren 5.[3][4][5]

On December 6, 2018 it was announced that Jinko Solar had supplied 350,000 high-efficiency monocrystalline silicon PERC panels rated at 1,500 Volts (Vdc) isolation for the construction of Techren 1. This phase of the project is owned by Clenera and is being constructed by Swinerton Renewable Energy. NV Energy is purchasing the electricity under a 25-year PPA.[6][7]

Swinerton Renewable Energy is also the EPC contractor for Techren 2.[8] Expected completion is by September 2019.[9] As with the Fort Churchill Solar Array and Boulder Solar, Apple Inc. motivated this construction phase of the project through the participation of its northern Nevada data centers in the NV GreenEnergy Rider opportunity.[10]
