The Ningbo Library and Information Center (NLIC) is located in the Ningbo University Zone (South). It cost 120 million Yuan to build the center and it occupies an area of 29,278 square metres (315,150 sq ft). It serves as the shared library of several universities in Ningbo, the library of Yinzhou District, and the second municipal library of Ningbo. It was designed by the architect Cheng Taining.

History

Construction of the Ningbo Library and Information Center began in early 2002. After a statewide search in April 2002, the Department of Education of Ningbo appointed Yan Wulin the first chief. Construction was completed in September 2003, with the grand opening on 28 December 2003.

In 2004, the library won the Lu Ban Prize (the best state engineering).[citation needed] On 1 June 2004, the library of Yinzhou District merged with the NLIC. On 7 August 2005, the number of visitors reached 10,053.

Since 1 July 2011, people are able to borrow books without bond.[1]

As of 2015, the library contains 30,000 books.
