The Anad base drone strike”' was a Houthi airstrike carried out on 10 January 2019 in Lahij province by using a drone in Qasef-2K model[2] that killed 6 six people [3] attending a military parade and wounded at least 25 military personnel [3] such as a number of senior officers from the Yemeni army, the country's chief of staff, a government official.[4]Houthi media reported that the drone was a Qasef-2K model that was designed to explode from a height of 20 metres and rain shrapnel down on its target.[2]

Attack

According to the Guardian, The attack targeted the 'Anad base by sophisticated drone in Qasef-2K model that not previously used by the Houthis, took place in Lahj province in the south of the country on Thursday. The aims of The Houthis was a reaction toward the Saudi Arabian-backed government of Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi. The Houthis noted the Saudi air force is still firing attacks. while a drone strike crashed into al-Anad district, the military parade was occurring. Hence, a number of officials wounded including Mohammad Saleh Tamah, the head of Yemen's Intelligence Service, Mohammad Jawas, a senior military commander and Ahmed al-Turki, the governor of Lahij province.[4][5]

The drone strick was a Qasef-2K, to explode from a height of 20 meters and fire toward its target.[5]

Reaction

The Houthis’ Al-Masirah TV announced that the aims of Anad base drone strike were to attack “the leadership of the invaders”.[5][4] The Houthi drone targeted led to suspend peace talks in Yemen after by making pressure for The UN.[5]
