Visual metaphor

A visual metaphor is an analogy representing, in a form clarifying spatial relationships, a concept or phenomenon whose global or detailed character is poorly (or perhaps merely prosaically) represented by a verbal description. Ancestor and descendant trees and "the dastardly digit" are straightforward examples, as are many styles of mapping that forego precise modeling. Template:Concept stub
