Mavatar Technologies, Inc. is the developer of the mCart omnichannel commerce platform.[1] The company is headquartered in Menlo Park, California.[1]
History
Mavatar was founded in 2011 by Susan Akbarpour, Dr. Brom Mahbod, Ph.D., and Dr. Panagiotis Papadimitriou, Ph.D.[2] The company is the developer of the mCart omnichannel commerce platform.[2] Akbarpour began conceptualizing the company while doing research as a graduate student at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.[3][4]
Mavatar has raised over $4.3 million in funding via angel investors, venture capital, and private sales of an initial coin offering that began in December 2017.[2][5]
In June 2018, Mavatar announced that it is licensing its software to the FX Group, the marketing partner for award shows like the Grammy Awards and the Emmys.[6] Award show viewers will be able to purchase content that they see at the award shows on the mCart platform.[6]
mCart Platform
Mavatar Technologies has developed mCart, a software platform as a service (PaaS) that connects retailers and content creators to create shoppable content and allows consumers to shop directly from that content.[7][8][9][10]
mCart uses the mCart token, which employs Ethereum-backed smart contracts to pay influencers and mCart marketplace operators for the sales that they drive.[11]
Team
Mavatar CEO and Co-Founder Susan Akbarpour has over 30 years of experience leading tech and media ventures, including the newspaper IranToday, magazine Silicon Iran, Teksia, venture capital firm Candou Ventures, and “venture catalyst” company Linkore.[12][13][14] Akbarpour possesses a M.S. in Management from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.[15] Co-Founder and President Brom Mahbod has a doctorate in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara.[16] Mahbod was formerly an executive at Oracle and helped build the foundation of network management at HP Labs.[16] Founding Member and Data Scientist Papadimitriou has a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford and previously worked at Yahoo! Labs, Microsoft Research, Yahoo! Search, in addition co-founding Caloricious.[17] Shayan Zadeh, the co-founder and former CEO of online dating platform Zoosk, serves as Mavatar's Executive Chairman.[18]
Phil Schlein is the Chairman of the Advisory Board.[19] Schlein was President and CEO of Macy’s California for 11 years, is an angel investor, and serves on the boards of Tea Collections, Sound ID, and Specialty’s Bakery and Cafe.[19] The Advisory Board also includes former Facebook Chief Privacy Officer Chris Kelly, Apple Vice President and former CEO of YSL Paul Devene, venture capitalist and politician Steve Westly, Japanese entrepreneur and CEO Dr. Sachio Semmoto, and Oracle Blockchain Architect Emmanuel Abiodun, among others.[20]
