Maximteatern

Maximteatern or "Maxim" (in English: The Maxim Theatre) is since 1960s a popular private theatre in Stockholm, Sweden. It's located at Karlaplan in central Stockholm.

Originally a theatre for film screenings, the house was built in 1945-46 by architect Ernst Grönvall. Before it was turned in to a movie theatre it was used as a studio by the Swedish Radio who from here, in the 1940s and 50s, aired the popular radio shows Karusellen (The Carousel) and Frukostklubben (The Breakfast Club). In 1967 the studio was rebuilt to a theatre (and movie theatre), but from the 1970s and onwards it was run exclusively as a theatre.

In the 1980s the company Limabrall took over the management of Maximteatern. Behind Limabrall were the names Lill Lindfors, Magnus Härenstam, Brasse Brännström and Aller Johansson - all wellknown names in the Swedish entertainment business. Productions as SPÖK, Omaka par (The Odd Couple), Skål (Cheers) and Arsenik och gamla spetsar (Arsenic and Old Lace) were among the most successful ones in the 1980s and 90s.

Since 2003 the theatre is run by a company called Proscenia.
