Advanced Technology Center

ATC was founded in year 2003. Now, it's the largest department of Microsoft China R&D group. It's initialized as a group of Microsoft research Asia (MSRA)and then became an independent R&D group of Microsoft. The goal of ATC is to attract software talents in China and develop products for global market. ATC has become a supper star inside MS and many business groups setup their remote teams with ATC. For example, Windows live search, Windows mobile and Exchange.

Although ATC is a successful new organization of Microsoft global R&D. It faces challenges inside and outside MS. The remote team model doesn't work well for people growth. Many senior mangers left ATC after 2 or 3 years. Some business units of MS setup their own China R&D groups instead of cooperation with ATC. In addition, ATC is also under pressure from Google China. It's headed by kaifu Lee, the father of MSRA.
