Cow parsnip
Appearance
Cow parsnip is the primary common name for Heracleum maximum, a flowering plant native to North America. The related species Heracleum sphondylium, a flowering plant native to Europe and Asia, is also called cow parsnip. To avoid confusion, H. maximum and H. sphondylium are sometimes referred to as American cow parsnip and European cow parsnip, respectively.[1][2]
The primary common name for Heracleum mantegazzianum, a flowering plant native to the Caucasus region of Eurasia, is giant hogweed but H. mantegazzianum is sometimes called giant cow parsnip.
