Jan Žižka (also known as Medieval orWarrior of God[4]) is an upcoming Czech action historical drama film by Petr Jákl.[5][6] It will be about life of Jan Žižka, Bohemian military commander who never lost a battle. It will be the most expensive Czech film ever made.[7][8][9] The fillm will be set prior to the Hussite Wars when Žižka was young. It will tell the story of how Žižka became a famous military commander.[10]

Cast

Production

In 2013, Petr Jákl announced that he was preparing to make a film about Jan Žižka. He estimated a possible budget of 85 million Czech koruna.[11] During 2014 it was scheduled for 2016 release.[12] Work on the film started after Jákl finished Ghoul in 2015.[10] American agency Morris Endeavor has assisted with recruitment of actors for the film. Jákl stated that Žižka will most likely be played by a foreign actor.[13]

In August 2016, recruitment for extras started.[14] Extras are used to shoot battles. The first round of recruitment concluded in January 2017.[7] Thousands of people showed interest in the recruitment.[15]

In July 2017, Jákl announced that shooting will start in Spring 2018. It will take place in South Bohemia and Central Bohemia. He also stated that it is certain that Žižka will not be played by a Czech actor. He mentioned that his contacts in the USA are communicating with agents of some American actors.[13] Cassian Elwes became film's producer on 6 March 2018.[16][17]

Ben Foster was announced to be cast as Jan Žižka on 24 August 2018. Shooting was scheduled to start on 17 September 2018.[18] Michael Caine was announced on 7 September 2018 to be cast as a fictional character of Lord Borš.[19]

The film was oficially introduced on 13 September 2018.[1]
