Global Research Identifier Database (GRID) is an openly accessible dataset of institutes worldwide that are involved in research.[1][2]

Each institute is assigned a uniqued GRID ID and there is a corresponding web address and page for each institute in the dataset. The dataset contains the institute's type, name variations, geo-coordinates, official website and, Wikipedia page.[3]  There are all kinds of name variations of institutions.  The dataset contains more than 63,000 entries and is available in the Resource Description Framework (RDF) specification as linked data, and can therefore be linked to other data.[4]

Example

The GRID ID for the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute is grid.8653.8
