NEW NOMINATIONS
Category:Serbs of Bosnia and Herzegovina convicted of genocide
- Nominator's rationale: Unnecessary container category; the parent is empty except for this subcat Catrìona (talk) 19:27, 4 August 2018 (UTC)
- Keep - there are 3 parent categories and Category:Serbs of Bosnia and Herzegovina criminals has other subcats. Upmerge to all 3 might be an option. Oculi (talk) 23:55, 4 August 2018 (UTC)
Category:People from Russellton, Pennsylvania
- Nominator's rationale: Per WP:SMALLCAT. Small one-county community with just 2 entries. ...William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 19:16, 4 August 2018 (UTC)
Category:Monuments in Nepal
- Propose renaming Category:Monuments in Nepal to Category:Lists of monuments in Nepal
- Propose merging Category:List of Historical Monuments of Nepal to Category:Lists of monuments in Nepal
- Nominator's rationale: The contents are all lists of monuments. Articles on individual notable monuments are in the parent Category:Monuments and memorials in Nepal. – Fayenatic London 16:47, 4 August 2018 (UTC)
Category:Northern Pacific Railway stations in Washington (state)
- Propose deleting Category:Northern Pacific Railway stations in Washington (state) - Template:Lc1
- Propose deleting Category:Northern Pacific Railway stations in Washington (state) - Template:Lc1
- Nominator's rationale: This category was superseded by Category:Former Northern Pacific Railway stations in Washington (state). After emptying it I tagged it for deletion as routine maintenance (as I have with many others) but was repeatedly reverted by Doncram (talk · contribs), who made various objections on Category talk:Northern Pacific Railway stations in Washington (state). The rationale is clear. The Northern Pacific Railway disappeared in 1970. It doesn't have any stations. WikiProject Trains settled on this categorization scheme in 2016: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Trains/Archive:_2016#Revisiting_station_categories, though harmonization has taken some time. I'm baffled at Doncram's hostility over this matter, but I'm bringing it here for a wider audience because he's not listening to me. It makes no sense to treat one former railroad differently from a hundred others. Mackensen (talk) 16:33, 4 August 2018 (UTC)
- Convert to cat-redirect -- I assume there is no scope for expansion even of the former stations target. Since this is a defunct company, we should not have a name for it implying it is current. The successor category might be better expressed as Category:Stations formerly of Northern Pacific Railway in Washington (state). These together might meet Doncram (talk · contribs)'s objection. If he is not willing to be more sensible, some kind of disciplining is needed. Peterkingiron (talk) 16:47, 4 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Peterkingiron: If you're asking whether there are more stations which be categorized in Category talk:Northern Pacific Railway stations in Washington (state) then yes, there probably are. In general we don't categorize former stations by company and state, but there's no intrinsic reason not to. They could be upmerged to Category:Former Northern Pacific Railway stations. Note that this is part of a broader scheme within Category:Former railway stations in the United States by company; if we change one we should change the rest. Mackensen (talk) 17:01, 4 August 2018 (UTC)
- Comment. I would appreciate if other editors could review what's appropriate here. I am not myself particularly interested in trains or categories at all. I contested the Speedy deletion nomination because it did not seem obviously correct, and I was scanning the recent edits by the editor, who came to my attention for their trashing the Soo Line Depot disambiguation page (by changing everything on the page so that every item seemed to be inappropriate for the page, leaving the entire disambiguation page vulnerable to deletion, though there are in fact numerous bluelink and legitimate redlink places of that name) and trashing most or all of the articles that it linked (by inserting unsupported assertions of name, and by moving them without wp:RM process). When I asked them to stop with undiscussed moves, they refused and proceeeded with a lot more. In that topic area, the editor showed lack of knowledge and showed disrespect for Wikipedia processes and consensus. Here about this category, I don't know for sure that they are wrong, but based on what they've done so far, I think it is reasonable to doubt them upfront.
- In the discussion, such as it was, at the category Talk page, the editor did mention the previous WikiProject Trains discussion, but they had not provided a link to it. They proceeded by battering away with repeated placement of Speedy request, instead of discussing there. Their behavior is pretty awful in my opinion. I don't have previous experience with this editor, but at an ongoing AFD related to one of the page moves, they have asserted that stuff exists, then when I asked for them to provide a link to it, they did provide a link but it did not support what they claimed. Here, I do appreciate that they have now provided a link to the WikiProject Trains discussion. I would appreciate if others who can stand to ponder this boring stuff would consider that discussion and this proposed deletion, and come to some consensus about what is right to do. Thank you. --Doncram (talk) 17:02, 4 August 2018 (UTC)
- Speedy delete This categorization scheme was settled long ago, and the speedy deletion was appropriate. Doncram's objections seem to be entirely entirely based on their one-sided feud with Mackensen for doing routine cleanup work. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 17:50, 4 August 2018 (UTC)
- Delete/redirect - I share Mackensen's surprise at any difficulty with this routine procedure. Oculi (talk) 20:31, 4 August 2018 (UTC)
Category:People from Economy, Pennsylvania
- Nominator's rationale: Per WP:SMALLCAT. Small one county community with just
32 entries. ...William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 15:34, 4 August 2018 (UTC) - Comment from nominator I uncategorized Milo Lockwood as being 'People from Economy' because his article only states he died there. The consensus is that dying somewhere doesn't automatically make a person from that place and Lockwood's article makes no mention of Economy except for him dying there....William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 15:45, 4 August 2018 (UTC)
Category:Nazis accused of war crimes
- Propose deleting Category:Nazis accused of war crimes - Template:Lc1
- Propose deleting Category:Nazis accused of war crimes - Template:Lc1
- Nominator's rationale: I created this category for Nazi war criminals who were never tried for whatever reason (died, lack of political will etc.) but for whom historical consensus has established that they are likely to be guilty of war crimes. As I'm no longer sure that this is a defining characteristic, I've nominated it here. Please count this as a withdrawn nomination because I have no opinion either way. Catrìona (talk) 14:54, 4 August 2018 (UTC)
- Comment -- We do not normally allow categories for mere accusations. There is a case for categories for people who died before trial, but cases where there was a lack of political will should not be included. Peterkingiron (talk) 16:54, 4 August 2018 (UTC)
Category:Dutch Frisian people
- Propose merging Category:Dutch Frisian people to Category:People from Friesland
- Nominator's rationale: merge per WP:OVERLAPCAT, the articles of this category (not the subcat) contain early modern and modern West Frisians while they were concentrated in the nearly mono-ethnic province of Friesland. When merged, the medieval subcategory should be removed from the target category (it could still be linked with a See also note). Marcocapelle (talk) 09:08, 4 August 2018 (UTC)
