SKYPEACE is a simple side-scrolling video game first released on the 3DS eShop by Sonic Powered in 2014. It is a dodging-based side-scroller, which is unlike most, if not all, other side-scrollers out there. The game was ported to Nintendo Switch in April 2018.
Gameplay
SKYPEACE is a simple game in both controls and gameplay. The player can use the Circle Pad, D-Pad, and the ABXY buttons to shift in eight different directions. Shifting is used to dodge enemies and grab collectibles. The goal of each stage in SKYPEACE is to make it to the end of the stage without dying, while grabbing as many collectibles as possible. The collectibles will increase your rank for that stage, but are unnecessary to actually complete the level.
SKYPEACE has 50 different achievements to complete, and these are where the game can become difficult. The achievements range from getting a certain rank on a stage, to finishing the stage without using a certain power-up, to only moving up and down.
Stages
There are three types of stages in total. The stages take place at different times of the day varying from day, evening and night. This may make it difficult to see certain collectibles at certain stages.
Ranks
There are six different ranks the player can get, though only four are shown on the chart. There is the (unknown) Rank, for completing the stage with less than 500,000 points, the C-Rank for completing the stage with at least 500,000 points, the B-Rank for completing the stage with at least 1,000,000 points, the A-Rank for completing the stage with at least 2,000,000 points, the S-Rank for completing the stage with at least 4,000,000 points, and the SS-Rank for completing the stage with at least 5,000,000 points. Points are calculated by multiplying the score by the combo multiplier.
20th Anniversary
As stated on the official website, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Sonic Powered, a Switch version of the game was released.
Reception
SKYPEACE has been praised for its quality in relation to its low price, while also being criticized for not standing out. It has a 6/10 score on Nintendolife and a 76% score on Gaming.[1][2]
