THDC Institute of Hydropower Engineering and Technology is an engineering college located in Bhagirathipuram, Tehri, Uttarakhand. The institute was established in August 2011.

THDC-IHET has initiated "THDC-IHET Research and Development Center" to promote Renewable Energy Innovation by teams of scientists and engineers from the institute and any other Institutes affiliated to UTU.[citation needed]

The institute has received the award for "Excellent Institute for Promoting Hydropower in Uttarakhand" in 2nd National Uttarakhand Education Summit & Awards 2015 by CMAI Association of India.[citation needed]

Campus

The campus is located at Bhagirathipuram, Tehri and near the famous Tehri Dam, Uttarakhand. The climate of Tehri is cool throughout the year. The campus is in sprawling 40 acres of land, which is situated at Bhagirathipuram area at a distance of 14 km from New Tehri. THDC IHET residing in a 20 acres campus has fixed out for itself a big name and is recognized as the first hydro power technical institute of Asia and India.[1]

Establishment

The institute was inaugurated by Sh. Sushilkumar Shinde, the then Minister of Power, in 2011.

Recognition

All India Council for Technical Education accorded approval to the following courses. The Institute is affiliated with Uttarakhand Technical University, Dehradun.[2][3]

Academic departments

The institute currently offers regular B. Tech degree program in the following disciplines:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Computer Science & Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electronics & Communication Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering

Admissions

The Bachelor of Technology admissions were based on the AIEEE (All India Engineering Entrance Examination). The exam consists of three sections on Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. However, from the year 2013, admission are through the JEE MAIN and ranks are given after considering 60% of the marks scored in the test, and 40% in the class 12 Board examinations.[4]

Activities

Student competitions

SAEINDIA holds a variety of competitions every year for engineering students across the country.[5]

  • SUPRA SAEINDIA Student Formula
  • Baja SAE India[6]
  • EFFI Cycle[7]
  • Aero Design
  • Eco Kart[8]

IEEE Club Activity

IEEE stands for the "Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers". The association is chartered under this full legal name. IEEE's membership has long been composed of engineers and scientists. Allied professionals who are members include computer scientists, software developers, information technology professionals, physicists, and medical doctors, in addition to IEEE's electrical and electronics engineering core. For this reason the organization no longer goes by the full name, except on legal business documents, and is referred to simply as IEEE
