Amazon Elastic File System (Amazon EFS) is an cloud storage service provided by AWS which provides scalable, elastic concurrent with some restrictions[3][4] and encrypted[5] file storage for use with AWS Cloud services and on-premises resources.[6] Amazon EFS is built to be able to grown unlimited[7] and shrink automatically as you add and remove files. Amazon EFS supports Network File System versions 4.0 and 4.1 (NFSv4) protocol[8] and control access to files through Portable Operating System Interface (POSIX) permissions[9].

Use Cases

Typical use cases for this service are content repositories, development environments, web server farms, home directories and big data applications.[10]

Data consistency

Amazon EFS provides open-after-close consistency semantics that applications expect from NFS.[11]
