Wikipedia Weekly Episode 3.0 - Wikimedia Foundation Retreat

The Panel

Currently, It's planned that we make a conference on Skype, which works up to ten folks, but for practical purposes four is about ideal.

Those signing up should be experienced with previous episodes, and be regular listeners of other podcasts.

Discussion

What should our main focus be for the week?

Sex, drugs, rock and roll? North Korea? Food! #wikipedia IRC room— Preceding unsigned comment added by Buickid (talkcontribs)

The main focus will be an interview with Matt Swann and Offline Wikipedia content, such as Wikipedia CD, Webaroo, etc. - Zero1328 Talk? 06:21, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

See if you can't get User:Walkerma in on this discussion, as he is a big worker in Wikipedia 0.5 (which is getting nigh). JoeSmack Talk(p-review!) 20:57, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've left a message at his talk page, although he seems... well, extraordinarily busy. Daveydweeb (chat/patch) 10:02, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Librarian John Hubbard's flash presentation on wikipedia, covered by wikizine. It was quite interesting. JoeSmack Talk(p-review!) 21:05, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I spoke with Andrew on IRC, and it seems I need to have Skype to participate. I don't have Skype, I can't set it up on my computer, and it's not available anywhere on campus, so I don't think I'll be able to participate. I have an internet phone connection at home through Vonage, and access to a professional video conference facility at the college. My wife also knows someone in the teleconference business, we're seeing if she has Skype, but that would necessitate holding the interview at a time later than 5:00am local time! Let me know if you want to proceed.
On the French Wikipedia 1.0 project, you can contact Emmanuel Kelson, and on the Polish Wikipedia 1.0 release Tomas (Poli) for updates. We all met at Wikimania and keep in touch. In English, there is also the WPCD-2 project (to be released by a UK charity) coordinated by User:BozMo; again, we're trying to coordinate work at Version 0.5 with this work. Hope this helps, Walkerma 15:36, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agenda

This is the basic layout of how the episode is planned to move along.

Time of Recording

[to be announced]

Introduce the panel

That'd be the speakers listed above. Each person says what they'd like to about themselves, and we move on.

News

Go through any recent news (for instance, any major headlines we see). Each person on the panel introduces at least one item, if possible, which the rest then talk about - so, everyone speaks equally, and we have a chance to properly talk things through. I guess each item could have a few minutes' discussion, or as much as we think it can take before it gets boring.

If we have time or nothing of interest, reading and discussing some articles on the Signpost may attract more people to read it.

  • From Wikizine: Librarian John Hubbard has created an extensive introduction to the English Wikipedia, explaining how to use the site, caveats regarding its accuracy, comparisons to other encyclopedias and its sister projects.

From the Signpost

  • The Wikimania 2007 wiki has been created, in preparation for next year's gathering in Taipei.

Feedback

If anybody provides some particularly interesting feedback, or one of us has anything cool to say, we'd say it here. Who knows? It might be interesting, if we ever have anything to say. :)

The World According to Wikipedia

This would be a quick, light-hearted discussion of any particularly funny page-rankings we see on The Top 100 pages at Wikipedia. There's at least two or three minutes' worth of humour in that. :)
