Sign Language Studies is a peer-reviewed academic journal covering basic and applied research relating to sign languages used throughout the world founded by American linguist William Stokoe. It covers linguistic, cultural, and educational topics.

History

Sign Language Studies was founded by Gallaudet University professor William Stokoe. The journal was initially published with the support of Thomas Sebeok through Mouton and Company, The Hague, Netherlands and Indiana University (1973-1975) and was then published quarterly by Stokoe's self-started publishing company Linstok Press in Silver Spring, Maryland, from 1975 to 1996. Today Gallaudet University Press publishes Sign Language Studies, with Gallaudet professor emerita Ceil Lucas as the journal's editor.
