Wikipedia:Offline Content Generator

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Steelpillow (talk | contribs) at 17:01, 25 March 2018 (update). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

The Offline content generator (OCG) was previously used to create independent document files from Wikipedia pages.

An individual page could be converted to PDF for download, or a group of pages could be selected to form a book in any of several formats, via the Book Creator which in turn used the OCG to convert the articles to the selected book format.

Withdrawal

OCG became unmaintainable and Wikipedia stopped using OCG in 2017, as part of a general withdrawal from all Wikimedia Foundation sites.

Replacement

OCG is to be replaced by a new facility. As of March 2018 a candidate system is in development testing. Its output options are limited to PDF file format in either A4 or US letter page size.

During the intervening period, page and/or book PDF creation may need to be turned off. As of March 2018, individual pages can be downloaded in PDF format. Books can be built using the Book tool but cannot yet be compiled to PDF.

Status last updated 23 August 2020.
