The blue region is New York state; the red region is area code 914.

Area code 914 is the telephone area code in the North American Numbering Plan for Westchester County, New York.

914 was among the original area codes announced in October 1947.[1] It originally was assigned to most of the continental portion of the New York metropolitan area, excluding New York City itself, which was assigned area code 212. Numbering plan area (NPA) 914 originally included Nassau, Suffolk, Rockland, Putnam, Orange, Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan and Delaware counties, plus Westchester. In 1951, Long Island (Nassau and Suffolk) were transitioned to area code 516,[1][2] reducing 914 to serve the lower Hudson Valley.

Due to the growing demand for cell phones and Internet dial-up connections, NPA 914 was split on June 5, 2000, reducing its numbering plan area to Westchester County, while the rest of the lower Hudson Valley received area code 845. Area code 914 was grandfathered for all cell phones in use before the split.[2]
